You may or may not know but I started making How-To videos this week.  These aim to help the absolute normal person and try to leave out all assumption.  I guide you thru each step, on screen, to accomplish a task.

So far to date, I have posted 2 videos.  The first being on how to set up your own MySpace social networking site and the second being on how to remove your advertisements from websites you frequent like MySpace and Facebook.

How-to remove advertisements (even on my blog!)

How to set up a social network

Have any questions, feel free to contact me on the right or post in my forums.

For all those out there searching for a great blog editor, Windows Live Writer is it.  I use it now to post to my blogs and they look much better.

It supports the following blogs (as of this writing):
Wordpress.com
Blogger
Typepad
LiveJournal
Moveable Type
Wordpress
Wordpress 2.2
Community Server
dasBlog
Radio Userland
Metaweblog API
Movable Type API

Notice there is no MySpace or any other social networking site on the list?  I think it is because they do not use standard blog API’s since they are using a custom brewed backend system.  As a suggestion to these social networking sites, make it easier for people to post content to your site.  Its what makes your site good and its FREE for you.

Get Windows Live Writer - Its FREE.

Ok, I thought Windows Vista was gonna be horrible. Well I just got the newest beta installed and after a rocky start with there packet discovering service, I have to say i’m rather impressed. I actually cannot wait until this is released in full to the public. From a support standpoint, Vista is gonna hurt business. Most of the work I do for customers is removal of spyware. People just do NOT police there kids on the internet. Thats a whole different story. With Vistas Anti-Phishing and user level protection, someone has to be a complete moron to get infected or lose there personal information. I’m sure I will have plenty of work still cause there are gonna be a few out there.

As far as looks go, Vista is one sexy beast. Absolutely beautiful. One has to ask themself if OSx had any influence….

Media player comes with a music service that looks like its going to compete with iTunes. If it supports my WM5 phone, they get my business. If iTunes would support other devices besides there ugly iTunes players or make there iTunes less “ghey” looking they would get more of my business. I only use it to buy episodes of shows my tivo missed or something.

I also like the fact you have to “run as administrator” for alot of programs to install, especially when that program tries to install common components such as msvcrt.dll. It allows the parents one more level of protection.

While the security pop-ups asking for permission to change firewall settings AFTER you click “unblock” are annoying, from a non-power user point of view, its awesome. It will hopefully be safe enough for the younguns that many people target.

Almost forgot the free games that come with Vista. Once called Purble Palace that keeps this 31 year old busy on advanced mode. :) On beginner mode, its great for kids to learn there colors and shapes. Makes me jealous I didnt have this when I was younger. Also comes with Mahjong. Thats a big awesome score. Mahjong is a hell of alot better than “solitaire”. Yes it does come with solitaire for you solitaire lovers but you should try out Mahjong. I’d like to comment on the other games but havent had a chance to play em.

EQ2, SWG, and Oblivion run fine on an “out of the box” install. No updating video drivers or directx was necessary. Planetside loads just fine if you set “XP2 Compatibility” mode but after you try to load in from character select, you get to view the beautiful desktop again. Not fun. I’m sure there is a work around for it, just havent found it, yet.

In summary, Vista will be the look of the new world, provided the world is still here when Vista releases…

Have you ever deleted a directory or moved/removed a hard drive and then attempt to repair a program installation or remove it? Well you can’t cause the files are not there. At least that is what most people think. I came across this little know program from Microsoft that lets you remove products from the windows installer database without going thru the registry and deleting entries. Its very simple to use. Download, install, run, Select program, click remove and then boom its gone. You can re-install the program again.

Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

Its a must have for a geek. :)

I hate computers. If I could, I would travel back in time and tell myself not to get involved with them. They are nothing but a headache. My home computer is TOAST for no reason at all… wont power up. Guess i”m in the market for another power supply. :(
